Create, Be Curious, Learn, have Fun and GLOW

Ohthisclassroomglows is on THE MOVE! *SITE CHANGE*

We’ve  MOVED!! Please Visit the New Site!

http://blogs.winnipegsd.ca/ohthisclassroomglows/

At the beginning of the year Winnipeg School Division purchased a license with edublogs pro accounts. This affects me (and my followers) because as of right now I have two blog accounts. It’s confusing… I know.

So, over the next two weeks I will be moving all of our ohthisclassroomglow blogs and setting up a new online space at the new site (yes I need to set up all my widgits again….).

So Room 129 will NO longer be blogging on this site. The new site is

http://blogs.winnipegsd.ca/ohthisclassroomglows/

When you go to this site – there is not YET a follow button like there is on this site. You will not be receiving e-mails for the first little bit. Over the next few weeks we as a class will be taking time to explore the visuals and aesthetics of our new online space we want to figure out how we will organize our new space – still titled ohthisclassroomglows.

Once we have our follow button and our new blog space up and running the way we like, we will send out an e-mail to invite you to follow us.

This blog has been a place for us to communicate our learning journeys. It has been a place for me to share my learning as an educator. It has been a place for myself and my students to reflect, set goals and see progress over time. I love blogging and so do my students. I promise our new site will be just as great – and I hope it provides more opportunities as well. I have gained so much from blogging over the past year – if you have time (!!??) my first few months blogging were incredibly rewarding and fascinating to read back. It’s so great to see the little faces that have changed and grown so much since last year. It was exactly a year ago this week that I began this journey. A journey of communication and shared learning that has gone on to include, but not be limited to twitter and instagram.  https://www.instagram.com/ohthisclassroomglows/?hl=en

So continue to follow us at the new site. We love your comments! We love knowing that we inspire you. Can’t wait to continue learning together…. #togetherIsBetter

Cheers,

Mrs. Thomas

More than 10 ways to help the Earth!

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd each year. Thursday we read The Earth Book, By Todd Parr

Image result for The earth book

At the back of the book, Todd Parr wrote about 10 ways we can help the Earth, and we were inspired to add to it!

1. Use both Sides of the paper (Zoe)

2. Put your underwear in the freezer! So when you get hot, you can get cold again! 🙂   (Aude)

3. Put cans, glass, paper and plastic bottles in Recycling (Anton)

4. Remember to close the freezer and fridge door, so you don’t waste energy – because we love the Polar Bears (Julia)

5. Make sure to turn off the lights when you are going out of the room (Georgia and Charlotte)

6. When you are using a pencil crayon and lead doesn’t come out of it, don’t throw it out. You can use it for a craft. (Mira and Finnley)

7. Turn off the faucet when you are brushing your teeth (Maevyn)

8. Use less water when you go for a bath (Sari)

9. Remember to pick up garbage to help the community, keep your neighborhood clean, pick up recycling and put it in the bin  (Julia, Finnley and Quintin)

10. Bring your own bags to the grocery store (Finnley)

11. Plant more trees so the air will be cleaner (Keito)

12. Don’t buy something that is useless or you don’t need (Levi)

13. Don’t waste energy from your house (Anton)

14. Drive less, scooter more! (Kennedy)

15. Car Pool (Finnley)

16. Don’t leave your fan on after waking up from sleeping (Finnley)

17. Plant your own food, like fruits and vegetables, so you don’t have to get them from California (Keito and Janna)

18. Walk or ride a bike more and drive less (Luca and Keito)

19. Don’t cut down a live tree just to make boats and paper (Julia)

20. Turn your car off when you are waiting. Don’t idle. (Levi)

Last week our classroom went on a community walk all around Montrse school (Follow us on Instagram to see the full adventure!). We picked up two full bags of garbage. We were shocked at all garbage and the many things that could have been recycled on the sidewalks and grass. We will continue to help the Earth by getting the word out about how important it is to step up and help out!

We hope you are inspired by US and remember some of the ways that YOU can help the Earth. Remember to Celebrate Earth Day, April 22nd!!

OhThisClassRoomGlows Poetry Cafe

Over the past week or so we have been working on poetry. April is National Poetry Month – so we are celebrating with a moving Poetry Bulletin Board. Each student has a spot to clip their poems on, the spot stays the same but the poems can change as they write more poems. It looks great!

We wanted to share our poems with you, our blog readers too.
